Chapter 6 

Bernard is odd at the beginning of the chapter 

Indirect characterization 

Lenina only cares about the material things 

Bernard compared to rhinoceros 

Lake District where much of early romanticism was written. Wants to show the romantic first date 

Bernard throws a little temper tantrum 

Lenina wants to be apart of the crowd whereas Bernard wants to be the individual 

The lonely crowd about the idea that we can feel more alone even when your surrounded by a big crowd but not alone when you are only with a few people.

There is a storm gathering and Bernard is starting a storm with Lenina on his views about being free from this mass production.

She's guilty just for listening and hearing it if the government funds out. 

Which side to take. Go against the government or take the drug and live in it

Bernard gives in to her and doesn't want to show his disagreement gave up on her.

Ironic that Bernard was not happy about the night before.

Third person omniscient all-knowing 

Odd starts and ends that part of the chapter. 

Part 2 Bernard's perspective 

Surprised by his surprise foreshadowing 

Forbidden to talk about his past but did it anyways 

Reoccurring word pneumatic 

Girl gets lost and storm comes 

Restatement of she wasn't there. 

Taking it out on Bernard for telling his story or secret 

Told Bernard he will get transferred if he continues his behavior but this just made Bernard even more angry and ready to take it on 

Helmholtz had a shaming affect on Bernard. Bernard cares what Helmholtz thinks. Helmholtz doesn't fight back like the director. 

Director felt naturally inclined to talk about his past memories because Bernard's a psychologist. Director showed feeling and foreshadows a possible plot twist for Lenina and what she is going to encounter 

Part 3 

Off to New Mexico 

Personification- the plant was working 

Every time she says something that she learned from hypnopaedic he says how many times it was repeated to her, showing his disgust towards it

Metaphor between the needle and Antlike movements 

Soma is used for everything as an escape goat

At first Bernard was confident and ready to take on Iceland if they were going to send him there now he is nervous and scared as he found as they are really going to do it 

More about animals. They continue to die because they run into the fence. Possible warning or connection to the humans also doing that. 

Reference about savages being tame- irony or juxtaposition
